Chesham Town Council maintains 203 plots across three sites around the town. The sites are at Asheridge Road, Cameron Road and Meades Water Gardens (Amersham Road).

Allotment plots are traditionally sized in poles, where one pole (30¼ square yards) = 25.3m² in more modern measurements. A full plot is 10 poles, though many plots have been split in two, making them easier to manage. Fees per pole per year vary according to site (as soil type and accessibility varies). These are currently (year 2007-2008)

Facilities at each site include water via standpipes, mini-recycling centres and lockable access gates with vehicle access for deliveries. The Town Council maintains the access roads. Parking is available in a car park beside the recycling centre (Cameron Road) and by the side of the allotments (Asheridge Road). There is a returnable deposit for gate padlock keys of £3.50.

What to do if you want an allotment:
There is currently a waiting list for allotments. If you wish to go on the list, please contact the Town Hall Office

They will then be able to inform you when a plot is vacant, and you can go and look round. Once you have looked at the plot and if you still wish to take it on, go back to the Town Hall and Chesham Town Council will issue you with an Agreement, which should be read carefully before you sign it.  Once the Agreement is signed, the allotment allocated is yours for a year, renewable annually, provided you follow the rules and regulations set out in the Agreement.

Other Important Information
There is an Allotments Group, most of whom have an allotment.  They are more than happy to advise and provide information to new and existing allotment holders.

There is an annual Allotment Competition for the best kept allotment and the winners at each site are presented with their prizes at the Annual General Meeting of the Allotments Group (organised by the Town Council´s Allotments Group) which is usually held in September.

Allotments are inspected by representatives of the Town Council and Horticultural Society twice a year and paid-up allotment holders are sent a letter from the Town Council if their plot is neglected, to make sure they still wish to retain it. If you feel you cannot cope, please do not suffer in silence until a letter appears - contact the Town Council. It may be that a smaller plot would be more appropriate, or that someone else who is able to work it is waiting for a vacancy.

Please be aware that if you do not work your allotment, the Council can serve a Notice to Quit.

Chesham Horticultural Society & Allotments Association
The Chesham Horticultural Society and Allotments Association is open to anyone in the town with an interest in gardening or allotments. It runs two annual shows, a sales hut at Cameron Road Allotments (selling very competitively priced seed potatoes, onion sets, seeds and fertilisers etc.), visits to gardens and socials. Membership is 60p for one and £1 for a couple. See the newsletter for more details of events and visits.
